As I sat in church on Mother’s Day morning, with my baby girl cradled in my arms, fast asleep – I looked down at her and I was completely awestruck. Wow. What a beautiful baby girl, how lucky am I? Whether you believe in God or not, babies are – quite simply – a miracle! How lucky are we, mummy’s, that we have the ability to grow a tiny human inside of our bodies? And they completely change our lives forever!
We were shown this video in church that morning and it really made me smile. The ‘interviewer’ attempts to recruit a person who is willing to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, mostly on their feet, with no breaks, no time to themselves… And guess what? Not one of them were interested. One even asked if it was even legal! He went on to explain to the applicants that this is what mother’s do every day of their lives. And he was right. I have only been a mother for 11 months now, but I could 100% understand what he meant.
But, what they didn’t touch on was from the mother’s point of view. I don’t know about you, fellow mummy’s, but being a mother has been the best, greatest and most rewarding journey of my life – and it’s only just started! Watching Emilia grow and develop, hearing the lovely things that people have to say about her, spending quality time with her, letting her sleep in my arms… Every moment of every day, I am reminded of just how lucky I am to have my own family! Being a mother, and having an amazing mother, has been the making of me! Both my mum and Emilia are a part of the woman I am today!
Don’t be fooled, it isn’t all happiness and sunshine… There are clouds, there are storms, there are days were I am exhausted from busy Mummy days. But that’s when the rainbows appear, that’s when I pray, I hold Emilia tight and I thank the Lord for the privilege it is to be a mummy to Emilia, and hopefully more too! (And if they carry on looking like their daddy, I’m definitely lucky! 😉 )
Fellow mummy’s – I have something to say to you! You don’t need me to tell you that it is one of the toughest jobs in the world, and that you are in this position for life now! But, let me tell you, it IS the most rewarding job ever! Only you can give your baby/babies what they need to survive! So listen here – no matter what your age or the age of your child(ren) – however much you struggle at times, when you don’t know what to do, when you’re stuck in a bad mental place, know this… You are enough! You are doing an amazing job! You are the best mother ever! And there is always light at the end of the tunnel!
“There will be so many times you feel like you’ve failed, but in the eyes, heart and
mind of your child – you are super mum!” – Stephanie Precourt.
Happy Belated Mother’s Day! <3 <3
